Be a Man

Be a Man (2012)

A trip to the toy store with his son sparks a young man to reflect on his own childhood, remembering his aggressive father and the sacrifice it took to win his approval. Be A Man explores the evolution of fatherhood and masculinity through three generations of men. This dramatic movie was written and directed by Bob Gottfried PhD. Drawing on his many years as a neuro-cognitive specialist, Gottfried has always been particularly moved by stories of how, as children, his adult patients describe having lied to their parents in order to get their approval and how it has damaged their own self esteem. Be a Man explores issues of bullying, self esteem, lying, disconnection and loneliness, but also offers hope, based on stories of those who were able to learn from their past and, despite their predicaments, live a productive and happy life.
