The town of Sulina is today part of Romania, located in the middle of the Danube Delta and accessible only by boat. Once it was a thriving independent city of fortune seekers, merchants and refugees, a cosmopolitan trading hub that drew men and women from all over the world. Today it is a ghost town. In ''Before the Fall'', the narrator returns to Sulina to find out the truth about his grandfather, who vanished from the town in the 1930s.
